Reserve sticky banners for information that deserves persistent visibility
Emergency appeals, GivingTuesday, registration deadlines, closures, matching-gift deadlines, renewal periods, urgent advocacy, and important program updates may justify a banner.
A banner should be easy to close where appropriate, avoid covering navigation, work on mobile, use readable text and sufficient contrast, avoid excessive motion, and lead to a related destination. If every campaign is urgent, visitors may learn to ignore the banner.
Use pop-ups without interrupting the mission
A pop-up may combine a headline, copy, image, button, form, meeting scheduler, video, or countdown timer for newsletters, donation appeals, resources, registration, volunteer interest, matching gifts, membership, sponsorship, or consultations.
Control when it appears, who sees it, how often it appears, whether it can close, whether the visitor already converted, whether it interrupts a task, how it behaves on mobile, and whether keyboard and screen-reader users can operate it.
