Create custom properties intentionally
Form fields are generally connected to CRM properties. Useful custom properties may capture volunteer interest, preferred program, membership type, event role, accessibility requests, sponsorship interest, communication preferences, donor designation, availability, or consent status.
Before creating a property from the form builder, confirm that it does not already exist, choose the right object, determine whether the value is temporary or permanent, document its segmentation and reporting use, evaluate sensitivity and access, define what happens when the value changes, and use controlled options where appropriate.
Require only what is necessary
Email address, registration type, required consent, event selection, or information necessary to deliver a requested service may need to be required. Phone number, comments, secondary interests, demographics, or information that can be gathered later may be optional.
Do not require a field simply because the organization would like to have the information.
