What does this mean?
HubSpot comes with standard objects such as Contacts, Companies, Deals, and Tickets. Those cover many common needs, but nonprofits may need to track other kinds of records:
- Donor type
- Households
- Volunteer applications
- Recurring giving plans
- Program enrollments
- Event registrations
- Grants
- Service cases
An app developer can create an app object for a particular use. When that app is installed, the object may become available in the connected HubSpot account.
This is different from a nonprofit creating its own custom object. The app developer defines and maintains an app object as part of the integration, helping organizations that use the app work from a consistent structure.
Why does this matter for nonprofits?
Nonprofits often depend on specialized platforms for fundraising, events, memberships, volunteer management, or program delivery.
Without a clear record type, teams may squeeze that information into contacts, companies, deals, long lists of properties, or spreadsheets. Records become cluttered, and reporting becomes harder to understand.
An app with a specialized object can provide a cleaner place to organize that information inside HubSpot. It may also reduce the custom development needed to connect an outside platform with the CRM.
